vSphere UX recommendation on Cancel behavior after OK is clicked in a dialog

I'm looking for some clarification on what the behavior of the web client should be in the following scenario:


1. User clicks OK on a dialog, say to create a new datacenter.


2. While the "Validating..." progress is displayed, the user clicks the Cancel button.


Results:


The action in step #1 is completed, not canceled. In this case the datacenter is created.


Is this the general pattern of the web client that plugins should follow?
